This Year’s Popular Paint Colors

May 25, 2022 | Blog

Paint trends are constantly changing with the times, and this year is certainly no exception. After a few tumultuous years, we see an uptick in paint colors that promotes a calm environment.

The Most Popular Paint Colors Right Now

Here are a few of the most chosen paint colors we see when working alongside homeowners. Let’s see if one (or more) of these inspire your future home remodel.

Mauve

Choosing a mauve paint color is high on many people’s lists today, and for good reason. Mauve adds subtle elegance to a room, especially when paired with olive greens and rich, deep browns.

“The right mauve shade is a beautiful choice to add depth to bedrooms and bathrooms without overwhelming them,” said Sydney Monson, one of JBDB’s designers. “You can also use it to create a sophisticated dining room.”

Neutral Browns

As homeowners look to incorporate natural hues into their homes, neutral browns are making a comeback. Browns work well for grounding a room, especially when paired with pops of colors. Try a darker shade in a north-facing room for a warming, cozy effect.

If you’re remodeling a room with southern exposure, try out a lighter taupe.

Blues

If you want to incorporate a bit of optimism into your day, you can’t go wrong with blue. This shade is especially ideal for bedrooms and bathrooms, where you go to find solace at the end of a long day.

“With so many different blues out there, you can choose a more neutral hue or a bolder shade,” noted JBDB Kayleigh Queoff. “Our design team can help you nail down the color palette that works best for your space.”

Olive Green

Bring natural elements into your home against an olive green backdrop. This shade pairs particularly well with creams and beiges and can be an elegant choice for cabinetry.

What is the 2022 Color of the Year?

Every year, nationally-renowned paint company Sherwin Williams selects a color to represent design trends. Sherwin Williams’ 2022 Color of the Year is Evergreen Fog. This subtle green, with gray undertones and a hint of blue, is perfect for creating a calming home environment.

Pick Paints You Love

If these paint trends don’t speak to you, skip them! It is better to invest in a color you love rather than pick something because other people love it.

The JBDB team helps you select the perfect shade for your dream space. One of our biggest pieces of advice for homeowners? As you contemplate different swatches, hold them up to your wall throughout the day to see how these paint colors appear in different lights.
