These North Oaks homeowners wanted to turn an underutilized lower level into a bar for entertaining. So, they came to James Barton Design-Build to make it happen. The result was a stunningly green hangout spot that’s become a favorite place to socialize with loved ones.
Making Your Lower Level Stand Out
- Custom cabinets
These custom cabinets, painted in Sherwin Williams – Rosemary SW6187, are the star of the show, bringing a pop of color into this sophisticated lower-level wet bar. To accentuate the design, the homeowners opted for sleek Top Knobs cabinet hardware in black.
- Reeded glass
Within the custom cabinets, reeded glass inlays give a distinctively textured surface with diffused light. And because it obscures what’s inside, the homeowners can use it for storage without worrying too much about how it’s organized.
- Countertop backsplash
The quartz backsplash is a standout element, adding even more style and texture to the design, giving it a little something special. The team pulled the texture into the countertop to give a cohesive look.
- Countertop floating shelf
A well-placed floating shelf adds a modern touch to the bar while also providing a focal point for these homeowners to display books, plants, or whatever they please.
- Accent lighting
The right lighting is key to how a space feels and functions. These lighting fixtures illuminate the bar without being overpowering. Plus, the lights add symmetry and elegance to the overall bar design.
“The homeowner had a unique sense of style that made creating this bar area a joy to work on,” said Sydney Monson, one of JBDB’s resident designers. “Working on a bar allows us to be a little more creative—this is a unique one-off space that’s not the home’s main hub, so we can easily showcase a homeowner’s style and personality.”
- Ice maker
Adding an ice maker to the bar was also a request from the homeowner so they could easily make cocktails and keep drinks cold. This bar also features a working sink complete with a Delta faucet so the homeowners can pour a glass of water or wash glasses at the end of the night.
- Built-in wine rack
The homeowners were passionate about having a wine rack in this part of their home. The JBDB team’s innovative solution lets them easily organize and access their expansive wine collection!
- Undercounter fridge
In a lower-level bar, convenience is everything. The Zephyr undercounter fridge is the perfect place to store cold beverages, so there’s no need to travel up to the kitchen and miss a moment of fun.
“We love how this project turned out,” said these North Oaks, Minnesota homeowners. “The JBDB team did such a great job listening to our needs and translating them into a fully realized design. It’s become one of the most used parts of our home.”
